The Katz HagaddahAfter having accumulated dozens of hagaddot in the past years, I have found one that I really like. It's artistic rendition of life in Egypt will surely make your Passover seder more meaningful.

Why do I like this hagaddah?

The graphic details of life in Egypt are most accurately depicted in this monumental work, The Katz Hagaddah, by artist Rav Gadi Pollack. Transporting yourself to the bitter slavery experienced by our forefathers is made much easier through flipping the pages of this book. Some of the pictures might be too graphic for your young ones, so use with caution. But the grownups will surely appreciate them.

In every generation, our people suffered through the hands of inhumane persecutors. In Egypt, it was no different. The Egyptian culture was filled with immorality that caused our forefathers to stoop into the 49th level of impurity. Had our people sunk any further, they would not have been redeemed.

This hagadah also comes with supplementary midrashim, many with graphics. Here are just a few:

  • Pharaoh's affliction with tzoraas and his magicians prescribed a twice-a-day bath in the blood of 150 Jewish babies.
  • Inhumane treatment of the old and weakly
  • The cries of Rachel, whose infant was turned into cement as she gave birth in a mortar pool
  • each of the ten plagues illustrated

In our last redemption from galus, (may it be in this generation, and may we merit a positive transition to that state) our Rabbis tell us that it will parallel the redemption from Egypt, except that there will be much more wonders and miracles never yet performed by HaKadosh Baruch Hu.

If we wholeheartedly repent as a nation, the redemption will be painless, otherwise Hashem, chas v'shalom, will bring about a tyrant as bad as Haman to awaken us to immediate teshuva. Hashem awaits our cries as deep and powerful as the cries of Rachel whose baby was sacrificed in the cement pool. May our martyrs who have perished in the recent savage attacks in Eretz Yisrael bring about atonement for our people and may we cry together as a nation to bring about our final redemption with mercy, speedily in this generation.
