It is unfortunate that many Jews start the addiction of smoking when they were young, some even before they were bar mitzvah.  You can see from these pictures taken from Israel:

It is quite well known that smoking is a "tolerated" behavior at yeshivas.  I have heard from various magid shiurs that the Beis Midrash of great yeshivas are often "clouded" not in "the thick clouds of Har Sinai where Moshe Rabbeinu went to meet Hashem" but with "clouds" of smoke from tobacco.  These are obviously not "clouds of glory" that we should be proud of.
