Birkas Hachamah Print E-mail

sunriseThis year, 2009, on 14 Nissan, (April 8), marks the anniversary of Hashem's placing of the sun in its position in the heavens.  We say a special blessing, called Birkas Hachamah, that we only get to say every 28 years.  Here are basic halachos for this blessing taken from the book, "One in 28 years" by Rabbi Moshe Goldberger.

Buying Esrogim from Eretz Yisroel in a Shmitta Year Print E-mail

Image As is well known, during Shmitta the accepted halacha is that all fields in EY are hefker and all fruits growing on the trees in these fields are hefker. As a result, anyone and everyone are permitted to walk in and gather fruits without having to pay anything for them. However a person is only permitted to take small amounts.
