Learning Chumash in the 21st century Print E-mail

ImageHashem wants us to learn His Torah. Whether it is the old-fashioned way, or the modern way, we will find a way.

As we continue to homeschool our children, we have utilized all kinds of materials out there for Chumash learning. Before the birth of digital workbooks, we had no choice but to resort to printable worksheets or bulky workbooks.

When using printable worksheets, we utilize a lot of other resources such as a printer, paper and ink, as well as stationary (pencils, erasers, etc.). Worksheets that require matching up of answers can get quiet messy, and hard to grade. It is hard to reuse these sheets and workbooks as they can only be used once.

We can say goodbye to messy worksheets, and say hello to Digital Chumash Workbooks. We have found that our children who are technologically savvy, prefer to use these workbooks, because the exercises are fun, engaging, colorful, and rewarding. These virtual workbooks take up 0 physical workspace, and reside on your computer. They are reusable from one child to the next, save a lot of money, and keep track of the progress of your child, encourage friendly competition, and best of all they make Chumash learning FUN, FUN, FUN!! You can always reuse the same workbook even after you have gone through it, once, twice or as many times you wish.

Children who find learning to translate Chumash in school boring should at least experiment with this method of learning to regain their love of learning Chumash. A myriad of activities are included in these workbooks. To name a few:

  • multiple choice - buttons, lists, drag and drop
  • match up - memory game, drag and drop, dot to dot, check table
  • list ordering - anagrams, hangman, word order
  • fill in the blanks - text entry, virtual keyboard
  • cloze

The graphics that accompany these workbooks motivate rather than distract. Some of the scenes reflect the theme of the parasha.

Parents and children are encouraged to learn along with the lessons and activities. It is definitely a great learning tool for the whole family.

With these digital workbooks, you can even use them to your learning advantage during the days of Chol Hamoed, since no physical writing is involved.
